Yoga for Posture – Poses to Strengthen Your Back

Yoga is by and large one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce back pain and improve posture. When performed correctly, yoga improves many of the body’s regulatory systems such as pain relief, circulation, and respiration. It dramatically increases flexibility and has been proven to reduce anxiety along with combating depression.

The fact is that many of the aches and pains that we feel on a daily basis are a result of bad posture. Back pain in particular, which is something many folks suffer from, can be particularly problematic. Even if it doesn’t result in pain, poor posture can make you look less than your best. One of the easiest ways to improve that is to discover the link between yoga and posture.

One of the great things about yoga is that you can do it just about anywhere and you don’t have to join an expensive gym in order to get started. A good floor mat and some comfortable clothing is really all you need to get going. Another benefit of the exercise you will perform in yoga is that they are non-impact, which means the risk of injury is almost down to zero. Instead, you will perform stretches and positions that are designed to build body strength and improve posture in ways that will have fantastic long term health benefits.

How much time do you spend slouched behind the steering wheel of your car, stuck in traffic? Do you have a job that requires you to either sit at a desk all day or be on your feet for endless hours? Even if you are a stay at home parent, think about how much running around you have to do in the course of a day and how it can impact how you feel.

If you have poor posture, all of the above tasks are going to leave you feeling achy and uncomfortable. Yoga has a number of easy to do poses that will help you turn around that posture problem in no time at all. You will very quickly find that that the aches and pains that you normally feel at the end of the day are greatly reduced, and it’s all because you have taken the steps to “sit up straight,” just like your mom told you to do all those years ago.

The connection between yoga and posture is a good one, but good posture is not the only thing you will get out of a daily exercise routine. Yoga is also a fantastic way of getting rid of the massive amount of stress that can pile on throughout the day. The relaxation and breathing techniques employed while you stretch will help you wash away those worries and focus solely on you. Heck, you might even find that when you are stuck in that traffic that your back feels great and you don’t feel like yelling at the traffic around you. That is all down to the power of yoga.
